Lose Yourself In Something Bigger

Did you ever stop and wondered, “There has to be more to life than this?”

I wonder what it’s like to have something bigger in my life. It does not matter what you call it, a purpose, a cause or a higher calling. Aren’t they all the same? They tap into something within us and something – or Someone above us. When our every day is not just a routine of inhales and exhales, and running on wheels that go for minutes, hours and days with no end. That there is an end and we toil towards it. That it’s beautifully Fulfilling and not a dark hole of Nothing. Not just a terrifying Nothing.

When we lose ourselves to something bigger we become bigger as well. We will not remain as a small star collapsing inwards from the effort it takes to shine our own little bright light. Our little sun will gain energy and soon shine with the brightness of a thousand suns. Wouldn’t that be splendid?

So I got to thinking, what will make me get out of my “smallness”? It’s like I’m in this bubble of Me, Myself and I … it can be frustrating. There are three things that I realized:

  1. An Open Heart and Mind: Do not close myself to new experiences or new people just because of my need for what’s safe and stable. I will not expand if I am closed up.
  2. Don’t Limit Yourself to the ONE: Instead of thinking of that ONE thing that I am supposed/meant/created for to do, I should just follow my passions and I sure have a lot of them. But living by pursuing my passions is meaningless unless I do the third point;
  3. Find a way to Help Others: I believe that talents and gifts were given to us for a reason. That reason is to contribute to someone’s life – give something of value to them even if sometimes they don’t even know they need it.

Right now, I am thinking of ways to apply the three things I’ve realized on how to live a big life. What can you add about living big?
